Choosing a conversational banking AI provider: a checklist

If you have decided to buy conversational banking infrastructure rather than build it, the next task is evaluating providers. Slick demos are easy to produce; production-grade infrastructure is not. Use this checklist to tell them apart.

Can it act, or only talk?

The first filter. Ask to see a real transaction, a transfer, a swap, a card action, executed end to end, not just a fluent conversation. If it can only answer questions, it is a chatbot, not banking infrastructure.

Is it grounded?

Confirm that balances, transactions, and rates come from live systems, not the model's imagination. Ask what happens when data is unavailable. The right answer is "it says so," never a plausible-sounding guess. See grounding and guardrails.

Where are the guardrails?

Check that limits, confirmations, and strong auth are enforced by the system, not by hoping the model behaves. Ask how it resists someone trying to talk it out of its own rules.

Does it connect to your rails?

You already have banking and payment relationships. Make sure you can point the AI at your own endpoints rather than being forced onto someone else's rails.

Multi-agent and extensible?

Can you add capabilities without rewriting everything? A multi-agent architecture means new features slot in as new specialists, not as risky edits to one giant prompt.

Is it auditable?

For every action, can you reconstruct what was asked, understood, checked, and done? Audit trails and policy are non-negotiable for anything a regulator will look at.

Does it scale, and what does it cost?

Ask about reliability at volume and the cost per conversation. A provider that cannot talk clearly about scale and economics has probably not run at scale.

Local fit

If you serve a specific market, test it on real local phrasing and local rails, airtime, bills, transfers, currencies. Generic English on foreign rails will not survive contact with your customers.

The short version

The best providers turn conversation into safe, grounded, auditable action on your rails, and can prove it. TwelveAI is built to pass this checklist. Explore the platform or see the features.
